1965 AMC American 440

This is a very nice 1965 Rambler 440 convertible running driving car from the State of Oklahoma. Body wise it is all good news with only an area of rust on the rear wheel openings. This problem is easily repaired since there is lots of solid structure in this area to weld to. It has a 232 six-cylinder motor with an automatic transmission. The motor gets hot after short distances but doesn’t overheat idling and runs very well. I have a thermostat to put in but haven’t tried that yet. The interior has a bad seat back but is otherwise quite nice. Overall the car is very nearly complete. Included with the car is an even better back bumper that is very clean and straight. The front bumper is straight and all the body side chrome is nice and straight. The glass and windshield are excellent. The floors are absolutely solid, and showing no sign of rust ever. I repeat, absolutely solid. The carpeting has been removed. The convertible top mechanism is excellent and the header bow is excellent The top material is bad because the top was left down for 15 years in storage. What is missing is a strike plate on the top windshield molding and a couple of nipples, which I threw away accidentally. This is a rectangular piece with a hole in the middle for the top to drop into as well as two nipples on the header bow. If you have these pieces I’d be a buyer. This car is solid as they come, and should be since it was a western car it’s whole life. If you are about to restore a rusty car like this one you could save a lot of money right now by getting started with this rust free car and avoiding all the metal work and body filler you’ll need to fix a rust bucket.
