This car was driven exclusivey by Mrs. Onassis for 18 years from August 20, 1974, the date when she purchased the car from Martin Motors BMW on the upper East Side in New York, until 1992 when she sold the car to her neighbor in Peapack, NJ.

Mrs. Onassis bought her BMW new, while married to Aristotle Onassis who had purchased an estate for them Peapack-Gladstone horse country. It is this car in which she drove her children each weekend to Peapack for riding and fox hunting at the Essex Hunt Club. During the week the car was garaged in a NY parking garage on 86th street but she occasionally drove it to the Doubleday office to fulfill editorial commitments.

As noted by her son his mother had a "love for words, the bonds of home and family, and a spirit of adventure" and this car was her principal means of travel to and from all three.

Says her Peapack neighbor, "It was her only and favorite drive."

The car was repainted in the original BMW Amazonasgrun color when owned by Mrs. Onassis. The leather is original in good condition with 3 tears on the driver's seat. Mrs. Onassis had the engine rebuilt once at 40,000mi after it overheated in New York City on the F.D.R. Drive. The car drives beautifully.

Along with the car, the highest bidder will receive the original title signed and dated by Mrs. Onassis in 1992 and 6 framed photographs of her spotted in and around Manhattan with her car. One is a priceless photo of her receiving a parking ticket for double parking on 5th avenue!!
