1968 Cadillac Eldorado |
-Uniquely spectacular restyling done by GM's then VP-Design BillMitchell for my Dad, whom was a long-time friend of Mitchel's esteemed mentor HarleyEarl (passed-away in 1969, was founder- GM'StylingStudio, who my Dad knew via 'Earl'sAutomotiveWorks' in Pasadena, Calif. where they were chums, and via a Hollywood-connection came my Mother then MGM/SilverScreen-actress Rhea LeFort favorite protégé of Dir.-C.B.deMille). The exquisite frontal-motif of this specimen is the result of modification to reflect what Mitchell said was "the styling that he and Earl preferred, -but that the MadisonAve.-boys wanted the then popular "broad-grin" -look"; -however, today i believe he was right that this motif has a certain stately-elegance that time has shown to be more enduring. Other changes made by the Mitchell's GM/Design-studio, was the subduing of chrome on both front/rear-bumpers, hubcaps, and outside-mirrors. The beautiful Black-leather interior (black-carpet never stepped upon) has the rare Raised-armrest/center-console & orig./Bucket-seat option, and the photos also show the handsome dash/brass-plaque commemorating the retrimming-treatment signed by- Whm.L.Mitchell. The car is also mechanically superb, the running-gear all still being 'factory-sealed' and very quiet running, uses no oil (compression is high factory-spec.); -and amazingly still having the quiet orig./Exh.-system. The GM/Styling-studio also installed a gorgeous pair of special Blue-porcelainized oem/Exh.-manifolds (from one of their show Eldo./Exhibit-motors). Never in any accident, the hardest-hit this car ever took was a 'factory door-slam'! While the chrome on this always garaged So.Calif. car is like-new, it really needs an extensive prof.-detailing before it could become a terrific perfect Show-winner (never shown), --thus the price offered (lower than what it should command, --but higher than a nice stock specimen)- "as-is/where-is"....
