The C5 Corvette was produced by Chevrolet from 1997 to 2004 and was the first truly all-new Corvette since the original. The transmission was moved to the rear of the car to form an integrated, rear-mounted transaxle assembly which was connected to the all-new LS1 engine via a torque tube. This move helped facilitate a desirable 50-50 weight distribution which had a profound impact on its handling. The new stronger frame eliminated the squeaks and rattles of the previous models making the C5 better than the C4 in every aspect. The stock LS1 engine produces 350 hp enabling it to run 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds and the quarter mile in 13.2. This particular example looks like a stock C5 with the exception of the staggered C6 ZR1 wheels. This car is far from stock though. It currently has just over 50,000 miles but the entire top end of the engine was rebuilt less than 13,000 miles ago. The new top end consists of a Bullet Racing custom grind cam, flat-top pistons with valve reliefs, 7.40 hardened chrome molly pushrods, LS7 hydraulic roller lifters, Comp Cams LS rocker arm trunion upgrade kit, Precision Race Components stage 2.5 CNC ported cylinder heads (10.5:1 compression), Brian Tooley Racing platinum dual valve spring kit (.660 lift) with titanium retainers, an LS6 intake manifold, 04 LS6 valley cover/PCV conversion, Lucas 42.5 lb (@60psi) fuel injectors, a Walbro 225 liter per hour fuel pump, GMPP ported LS6 oil pump, GMPP LS2 timing chain, a GM Delphi 85mm mass air flow sensor, MSD 8.5mm spark plug wires and NGK TR6 spark plugs. It is fed via a Blackwing cold air intake and sounds just plain nasty ripping through its 1.75 inch ceramic coated long tube headers, 3.0 inch X pipe and titanium Z06 axle back exhaust. The end result is an extra 165 hp that is completely reliable and still capable of 30 mpg on the highway. Within the last 1000 miles the transmission was gutted and rebuilt with all new performance parts by Texas Drivetrain Performance and is rated to handle 750 hp. When the tranny was rebuilt it also received a shifter from a 2009 Z06, a LS7 clutch & flywheel, updated 04 Z06 master & slave cylinders, heavy duty 04 Z06 throw out and pilot bearings and a remote clutch speed bleeder kit. Not only that but the brakes were also redone at the same time as the tranny which included Brakemotive cross drilled & slotted rotors, ceramic pads and all new stainless steel brake lines. It was serviced at this same time as well at which time an Optima red top battery was installed. The end result is one of the most street friendly 500 + hp cars that you could actually drive coast to coast with confidence. The upgrades on this car cost in excess of $10,000 yet we have priced this beauty as if it were bone stock! For more pictures and a video of the engine visit HotRodsChoppers.com
