For sale in our Chicago showroom is this Black Beauty, a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6. This ZO6 isn't your typical ZO6. For 2001, Chevrolet will rejuvenate a code from this hallowed list with the new model you see on these pages. Called the Z06, it represents a variant of the C5 Corvette enhanced with a comprehensive package of go-fast upgrades designed to make it the highest-performance production Corvette ever built. The new Z06 starts with a more powerful version of the Corvette's LS1 V-8 engine. Designated the LS6, this engine employs a redesigned intake manifold with smoother internal passages. Revised cylinder heads incorporate better-flowing intake and exhaust ports, combustion chambers redesigned to reduce valve shrouding, and a higher compression ratio. New thin-walled cast-iron exhaust manifolds provide a smoother exit for the combustion products. To exploit the LS6's greater flow capacities at high rpm, the engineers fitted a hotter camshaft with more valve overlap and greater valve lift, new chrome-vanadium-steel valve springs, and stronger pistons cast from a more durable alloy. And to help air retreat from the underside of the flaying pistons, the LS6 has windows cast into the internal crankcase walls. This particular ZO6 is outfitted with the Lingenfelter Supercharger package!!! Which includes a Magnuson intercooled super charger (the silver painted version), new fuel injectors, new serpentine belt, high flow fuel pump (installed in tank), 160 degree thermostat, and a Blackwing high flow air intake. Then added was a Lingenfelter long-tube stainless steel headers, cross pipe, Corsa stainless exhaust, and Diablo Sport Predator engine tuner. Not to worry, this car has been professionally tuned on a Dynojet dyno. The engine is pumping our 550 horses!!! There's 464 horsepower to the rear wheels!!! That's some serious muscle. This Supercharged LS6 engine feeds its fortified output to the rear wheels via a beefed-up clutch (with lighter pedal effort), a larger-diameter driveshaft, and a revised six-speed manual transaxle. Called the M12, this new gearbox has shorter gearing (10 to 16 percent shorter, except for fourth gear, which is unchanged) to better exploit the LS6 engine's higher-revving power band. Listen to the rumble through the titanium mufflers that are sporting larger exhaust tips that are on the other 2001 models. Don't worry about being able to stop this beast. Braking is aided with Baer EradiSpeed cross drilled rotors and Hawk high performance brake pads on all four wheels. The front and rear brake calipers are painted red. Now take a step back and look at the exterior. Chevrolet designers gave the new Corvette model a few more obvious visual cues. Stainless-steel wire mesh fills the twin grilles in the front fascia, which feed cool air to the new engine. Vents with similar grilles are tacked onto the body just forward of the rear wheels to direct cooling air to the rear brakes. ZO6 logos are also added to the front fenders. At first glance the paint looks like your typical Black paint, but wait...look at the nose and hood. YUP, those are custom Purple ghost flames!!! They are subtle, but really pop in the sunlight. Now open the driver door and slip into the soft, supple Black with Red inlays leather interior. Notice the ZO6 logo on the instrument cluster and embroidered into the headrests of the specially upholstered seats.
