1996 marked the end of production for the C4 Corvette and the GM engineers wanted this generation of Corvette to go out in style, which they did with the introduction of the Collector Edition and the Grand Sport. All 1996 Collector Edition Corvettes were painted Sebring Silver and included special trim and special ZR-1 style wheels with wider tires. This CE Corvette has the highly desirable red leather interior, 330 horsepower LT-4 engine, 6 speed manual transmission, dual power seats, Bose stereo with cassette and CD player. The LT4 engine option was only available with the 6 speed manual transmission and was the ultimate C4 Corvette small block, available only in 1996, it is the same engine used in the Corvette Grand Sports. The LT4 increased the compression ratio, installed a special cam, and new designed aluminum heads with Crane roller rockers, increasing the horsepower to a very conservative 330 from the standard LT-1 300 horsepower. These cars have become very popular because of their uniqueness and their outstanding performance.
