General Motors’ Australian subsidiary Holden produced a Chevrolet coupé utility in 1935 that continued through 1939. The first generation El Camino was introduced in the model year 1959 based on the new-for-1959 Brookwood two-door station wagon, exterior of the Bel Air, and interior of a low-end Biscayne. The second generation El Camino was re-introduced in 1964 on the Chevelle/Malibu platform. The 1964 (and subsequent) El Caminos were an immediate hit with the public. A Super Sport (SS) version of the El Camino was produced each year, starting in 1968 and ending in 1972. This particular example is a 1964 El Camino that rightfully deserves whatever moniker you wish to throw at it; Mild Custom, Resto-Mod, or just a plain mid-sixties Very Cool Hot Rod!

Exterior: Starting with a no accident, no rust and rock-solid El Camino, the body, chrome and stainless trim, glass and running gear was disassembled. Body panels, inside and out, were stripped to bare metal, primered, and prepped prior to application of the stunning, blemish-free Maroon finish. New chrome bumpers and either refinished or new stainless trim was expertly fitted resulting in laser straight panels and uniform hood, doors, and tailgate gaps throughout.
Interior: The all-new, well-appointed and spotless interior is completely restored to resemble that of a Super Sport model El Camino, if one would have been produced in '64; with a gauge cluster in place of engine warning lights, the optional dash-mounted tachometer, factory wood grained steering wheel, and new bucket seats from a '64-'65 SS Coupe. All gauges are new except the speedometer.
Engine and Driveline: The rare Chevrolet 327 cu. in. completely rebuilt engine was bored .040 over and fitted with a new reciprocating assembly. The block is Date Code L 18 (Dec. 18, 1968), Casting Number 3956618. Heads are 76 cc .194s Casting Number 333882, Date Code F 21 4 (June 21, 1974). New clutch, U-Joints, and a balanced driveline. New Edelbrock 600 cfm carburetor, new distributor, and High-Torque Mini Starter. Idles at an even 800 RPM, 40 PSI oil pressure when hot and 15" of vacuum. Transmission is a new Saginaw 4-Speed equipped with a new Tri-Five bell housing and Hurst Competition Plus shifter and linkage. New HD core aluminum radiator and electric fan. New master cylinder and drum brakes all around.
Wheels and Tires: REV gloss black and machined wheels on P235/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires.
