1938 Chevrolet Master Deluxe Business Coupe $57,500 – Dunlap, TN
In these days of big wheels and all the modifications done to classic cars to bring them up to current fad status it’s a real treat to see an original “old style” hot rod for a change. This 1938 Chevy has been owned by its current owner for the past 35 years and the previous owner owned the car for many years before that so the basic car has not changed since probably the 1950’s or the 1960’s.
The engine work was done in the old style tradition of removing the factory 6 cylinder and replacing it with as large a motor as you could find for the day to create a fast hot rod. You could also equip these cars with 7 leaf rear springs to haul heavy loads such as this one is and have the capacity to haul many gallons of liquid at a high rate of speed leaving the black and white car with the red lights on top in your rear view mirror in the dust.
While still maintaining its originality and moonshine runner status, it has now been modernized to the point of rack and pinion steering, front disc brakes, tilt wheel, A/C, custom dash with speedometer, TACH, gauges and of course a 12V system.
Having just undergone a costly, lengthy, frame off rotisserie restoration, the Master Deluxe Business Coupe is now a high quality show car with beautiful detail, paint and leather interior. Underneath the car is even pristine and as solid as the day it was made with no rust repairs or any evidence of ever having been repaired otherwise. The car has no miles since the restoration except for 4 test miles.
The Engine is a 425 CI Oldsmobile rocket and still maintains its 45 to 50 year old valve covers and breather. The transmission is the matching Oldsmobile 3 speed automatic and has a 1957 Chevy rear end.
The grill, stainless trim, door and window handles, running board trim, interior and exterior window trim as well as other parts are original and restored. New tinted glass has been replaced all the way around. This car was not a rust bucket redone but has all original body parts. Having spent the majority of its existence inside explains its extraordinary condition and rarity of a car such as this.
