This 1948 Chevrolet Modified is for sale in our Louisville KY showroom. Fresh from the Street Rod Nationals is this unique 1948 Chevrolet Street Rod. The idea for this vehicle started life as a concept idea by an automotive artist from the Louisville KY area, which also the current home of the Street Rod Nationals every year. The frame is fabricated from 2” x 4” tubing that has been tapered down to fit the fit the Track Roadster nose and aluminum grill. A Pete & Jakes chrome tubular front axle is mounted utilizing a traverse mounted spring with friction shocks, with a Vega steering box to handle the steering. Super Bell Disc brakes are used, in the front, to bring this the little street rod back to a halt. The rear end is a Ford 8” rear end that has been rebuilt with new bearings and seals. The rear end is hung using a high arch Model A spring and utilizes conventional shocks. The crazy mods don’t stop there! The body is originally from a 1996 S10 extended cab. It has been chopped 6 ˝ inches and the “B” pillar has been removed. A new OEM windshield has been cut down to fit the cab. The cab was then covered in a Spies Hecker MB 535 “Blood Orange” basecoat that has been covered with a Select Clear clearcoat. A set of 1929 Chevrolet Headlights with brass rings and quartz bulbs finish out the front. Inside the cab is a custom built dash that has been filled with Equus performance gauges. The Speedometer is held in a custom designed and fabricated mount. Due to an issue with the speedometer, the 1st one was replaced. The car has 1200 miles on it since the build. The seats, door panels, overhead (a place to keep your sunglasses) and center console of the interior are covered in simulated Ostrich Skin leather. The center console houses the automatic shifter with the fit and finish giving a nice clean finish to the interior. It really sets off the inside of this one of a kind car. The meat & potatoes of this cool little ’48 street rod is a freshly built 350 Chevrolet Small Block engine with a mild cam. The engine has been dressed out with fabricated aluminum valve covers, a red powder coated intake that is topped off with a new Edelbrock carburetor. Other dress-up items for the engine include chrome oil pan, chrome upper and lower pulleys, polished aluminum timing chain cover, chrome water pump, chrome alternator. To keep the 350 engine cool is a custom built, by PRC, one off aluminum radiator, with airflow being controlled by a Spahl electric fan. Exhaust gases leave the engine via a set Hedman “Lakester” headers with block offs and exhaust that runs under the car to a set of Smithy glass pack mufflers. The 350 is backed by a professionally rebuilt Turbo 350 three-speed automatic. An 11 gallon fuel cell has been added in the rear to help with the classic hot rod look. The 1948 Chevy Street Rod rides on steel wheels that are covered with spun aluminum MOON discs. The wheels are shod with Michelin P185/65R/14 in the front and Yokohama P225/75R/16’s in the rear. It gives this ’48 modified the right Hot Rod stance! Options include; AM/FM/CD Stereo, hub caps, four point quick release seat harnesses and radial tires.
