For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is 1969 Chevrolet Nova SS 396. For Novas, this is the cat's meow! Painted in Cortez Silver over a Black Vinyl interior. This was a Canadian GM car which means it has the documentation that GM of USA cannot provide. Copies of the info sheet are available upon request. Powering this SS Nova is the L78 solid lifter big block 396 pumping out an underrated 375 horsepower and 415 lbs/ft of torque. The horsepower was rated at 5600 rpm and being a solid lifter engine, these engine could certainly pull higher RPM. True horsepower was closer to 425-450! To achieve these figures, compression ratios were raised to 11.1:1 by using forged aluminum domed pistons, rectangular port cylinder heads, aluminum high rise intake manifold with an 800 cfm Holley four barrel carburetor, a four bolt main block, steel crankshaft and a high lift mechanical camshaft. Backing up this powerhouse is a M-22 Rock-Crusher 4-speed super close ratio transmission and then to a 12 bolt rear-end housing 3.55 gears with Limited-Slip. Slowing this light little muscle car down is done with power front disc brakes and rear drums. Hood trim, fender trim, 396 badges and steel wheels painted body color with dog dish hubcaps and redline tires compliment this Nova perfectly. Underneath, you'll be amazed by the attention to detail. Originality was number one when the car was restored. Factory paint markings are in place and the correct fasteners and hardware were also used. Start it up and listen to that high compression big block come to life. Let the clutch out and listen to that wonderful sound coming from the Rock Crusher transmission. With 3.55 gears you can fun around town and still get on the highway and cruise to the next show.
