Launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1955, the DS was light years ahead of its rivals in terms of technological development. The unusual bodywork wasn't just about making a style statement, for it was the most aerodynamic machine on the road in its day with a Cx of 0.34. Couple to that unique hydropneumatic suspension, which gave the car a wonderful ride quality, headlamps that swivelled with the steering to see round corners, inboard disc brakes and a plastic roof to keep weight to a minimum, and it's easy to see why the DS is regarded as one of the most important cars of all time.
