This 1934 Dodge Cabriolet was originally built by Roy Brizio Street Rods as the giveaway car for the Goodguys 2000 season, and it was featured in the October 2000 issue of Mopar Collector’s Guide and November 2000 issue of Street Rodder Magazine. In true Brizio fashion, no stone was left unturned in the build, starting with a fiberglass ‘34 Cabriolet body from Frank Miller of Coach and Chassisworks of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, wearing suicide doors against its butterscotch pearl exterior. The manual-folding cloth top includes a glass rear window and full tonneau cover. After an unfortunate accident at the Des Moines Goodguys event in the Summer of 2000, the car’s body was damaged, rendering it unable to attend the remainder of events. It subsequently received a comprehensive rebuild over the expanse of two years by Rex Evchuk including a new body furnished by Coach and Chassisworks.
Peeking through the hood cutouts, the red crinkle-finished intake and valve covers hint that the engine beneath the hood is anything but ordinary. Tucked between the frame rails lies a Dodge Viper V-10 engine displacing 488 CI and rated at 450 HP. Bolted to a Tremec 6-speed manual gearbox, power is funneled through a 9-inch Currie rear end with Air Locker Positraction to the 17-inch Billet Specialties wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Comp T/A tires. The handling department features coilover shocks at all four corners and Mustang II rack-and-pinion steering, while Baer brakes with cross-drilled and slotted discs haul this ‘34 down in short order.
The custom interior is swathed in brown leather covering the eight-way power bucket seats, door panels and Billet Specialties steering wheel resting atop the tilt steering column. An air conditioning system is neatly hidden away, and power windows are actuated by billet switchgear. A Hurst shifter with Moon shift ball handle gear changes and a complement of white-faced gauges keep tabs on the powerplant.
