1970 Challenger CONVERTIBLE Trans/Am Clone

This is a 1970 Challenger Convertible Trans Am, or T/A Clone. It was built on a solid, clean, V-8, original mile Challenger. There is no fender tag and I have not disassembled the interior looking for the build sheet (yet, LOL) It has perfect, rust free, never patched-aprons, frame rails, core support, firewall, fenders rockers and doors. The original quarters have had a little work but still retain the original outer wheelhouses and quarter lips. It has had two small patches in the trunk. The original floors are solid. The body is straight and has never been wrecked. The chrome is brilliant and un-pitted. The taillights are clear and bright. It has a mint SE rear finish panel. The grille is in great condition. The glass is clean and has no noticeable scratches. The convertible top is in great condition with a glass back window and the original long grain pattern. The panel fit is excellent and the doors close and seal as they should. It is of course a power top and it works perfectly. The clean top frame is original and has never been painted and still has the original stickers on the header bar. The convertible latch downs are un-pitted and are not broken.

The car was converted into a T/A clone 9 years ago. At the time a complete body strip was done and the car was painted sublime inside and out very professionally. The car now appears to have been wearing that color since it was born. The paint quality is still excellent. This car has won a room full of trophies in car shows all over the south. After 9 years the paint still looks good with just a few small blemishes.

Mechanically the car is wonderful. The 340 engine runs fantastic and is very powerful. The six pack is set up correctly and functions as it should, opening at just the right time with a nice growl through the new T/A side exhaust from Year One. It has the six pack air cleaner assembly for that “WOW” appeal when you open the hood. (Which a lot of people ask you to do!) It has the stock looking HP cast iron exhaust manifolds, H-pipe and full T/A exhaust including the chrome tips. The engine bay has nice paint, as does the engine. All under-hood accessories have a nice clean appearance. The wiring harness is clean and original.

The car has had a recent front-end rebuild and drives straight as an arrow. The power steering works perfectly as do the power disc brakes. The pistol grip shifter is a joy to work. If you’ve never driven a pistol grip car, driving this one will let you know why it is the most popular shifter ever placed in a muscle car! The 4spd shifts nice but feels a little soft going into second gear. That will be addressed next week by a highly qualified mechanic. Other than that, the car runs, accelerates, stops, steers and sounds like it should. The car also runs cool and can idle all day long in 90 degree heat. A brand new 60 amp alternator has also just been installed.

The interior is black bucket seats and is in very good condition. There is one small wear spot on the driver’s seat. The dash has two small cracks near the speakers but it is the original dash. The car also has a Sony Stereo CD player mounted in the glovebox and a Sun tach tastefully mounted under the dash. The original black top boot is also in very good condition and looks great on the car. Here is a partial list of the T/A upgrades. (prices from Year One)
