For sale is an original and rare 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner, 2 door convertible rwd coupe with the Continental Package. The Skyliner is a hardtop car with a metal roof that raises up, then folds & retracts into the trunk compartment and transforms itself into a roadster convertible. It was literally an electro-mechanical engineering wonder in its day. These cars were only in production for 3 years (1957-1959) and the 1958 is very sought after. This would be the perfect restoration project for someone with the ambition and time. I hate to see her go, but I need to make some room in my garage. Please note - this is a non-running restoration project car that will need to be picked up in person and transported.
This car was purchased back in 2011 in the exact same condition you see today. I had all intentions to completely restore and add to my collection, but just never found the time. I have the clean title in-hand w/ exempt status, original keys, always garage kept and all original Ford badges. It has minor surface rust on undercarriage and in other small areas, but no dents or rot. Chassis, suspension and body all in great shape for its age! No rips or tears in the original seats, door panels or carpeting, and no cracks in the dashboard. Windshield and both glass in drivers and passenger doors are cracked.
The original 352ci (5.8L) V8 engine and 3spd automatic transmission was removed around 70k miles and completely rebuilt by the previous owner but has yet to be reinstalled. The original exhaust was replaced w/ a full custom exhaust. I have all original engine and drivetrain parts, extra transmission, radiator, wiring harnesses, trunk hydraulics, extra front bumper, and other misc spare parts.
I'm attempting to represent this sale as honest as possible, but I am not aware that every single part to restore this car to original condition is present. I believe this is very fair price for the current condition; fully restored are selling for up to $70k+.
