1962 Ford Galaxie XL
1962 Galaxie XL convertible
This convertible is one of 13,183 produced. It was built in Los Angeles in June with a 390/ 4 barrel carburetor, Power steering, Power brakes, Power Top, Bucket seats with center console. Production of the XL line didn’t start until March of 62 which accounts for the very limited numbers. I haven’t been able to get information on how many are left.
The paint code of “B” didn’t come up in the books for 62 this paint is the closest match we could do four years ago when it was painted.
I still have the original hub caps that came on the car. I prefer the look of the 15” over the original 14” tires. She sits on new springs in the front; station wagon springs in the rear (raised it up 2” better than using air shocks).
Using the original power brake booster the front brakes have been upgraded disc.
The charging system is upgraded too and alternator (the lights, heater and wipers don’t change at traffic lights).
The motor is a 1967 GTA 390/ 335HP; after spending years sitting this 60K motor was hot tanked magna fluxed and freshened up with high performance stainless steel valves, new guides and hardened seats for unleaded fuel. New rings, bearings, cam, lifters and timing set were installed. The bore and crank are standard. It still has the very rare air cleaner and the “S” intake. This is a very rare and sought after engine it has all best stuff Ford had for the 390.
