1939 Mercury Chopped Top Coupe

1939 Mercury Chopped Top Coupe for sale

This is a 39 Merc built by, Bill Hines about 25 years ago. This is a project for someone looking to build a 100 point Full Custom vehicle not a 100 point stocker. It is sitting on a 1955-1957 Chevy/Chevrolet chassis, 605 steering box, rebuilt rear end and a front disc brake kit. The frame is highly regarded for it’s light weight, superior strength and a multitude of performance upgrades that can be easily bolted or attached to it, such as heavy duty front and rear sway bars, poly urethane bushings and the list goes on. Resting inside is a 1999 Fuel injected 350 with a 1992 700r4, with the wiring harness & computer/brain. The car started out as a straight solid vehicle, yet I sold the original chassis and interior to build a one of a kind interior. I have the desirable early Ford T-Bird bucket seats with the wraparound rear seat and center console. The side door windows were given the swooped treatment similar to that of the Nick Matranga Mercury built buy Sam Barris and George Barris, which roll up and down smoothly. That design aspect was eventually adapted to Bob Hirohata’s 1951 Mercury. 95% of the body has been stripped to bare metal, treated and sealed with the Rust colored primer, no that is not surface rust. I believe the driver’s side door still needs stripped. The trunk and floors are solid with no cancer. There are a lot of details on this car and must be seen to be appreciated. I would consider trades for other vehicles, an Indian or Harley Davidson, motorcycles or?

It would be nearly impossible to build a car like this, with as many modifications as it has for less.

This is a great opportunity to own a vehicle built by a legend!

The 1939 Merc is nearly identical to the 40 Merc, yet is sought after more so being that it is the first year to be produced by Mercury of the Ford Motor Company, as is the case with most first year production vehicles. This car is definitely a custom hot rod body style that inspired every one from Harry Westergard, Joe Bailon, Larry Watson, Dean Bryant, Sam Foose, Art Himsl, Ayala Brothers - Gil & Al Ayala, Kenneth Howard Von Dutch, Gene Winfield, Joe Wilhelm, Neil Emory, Frank De Rosa, Blackie Gejeian, Darryl Starbird, Alexander Brothers - Mike & Larry Alexander, Rat Fink Ed Big Daddy Roth to Chip Foose, Boyd Coddington, Rick Dore, Dean Bryant of Elegant Customs, John D’Agostino, Richard Zocchi, Eric Rickman, Bill Reasoner, Jesse James of West Coast Choppers, Mike Ness of Social Distortion , John Aiello, Rod Powell, Dick Dean, Andy Southard Jr., Brian Everett, George Cerny, Tommy the Greek, Bill Carr, Jr. Conway, Marcos Garcia, Darryl Hollenbeck, Paul Bragg, Brett Reed of Rancid, Cole Foster, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Jimmie Vaughan, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett of Metallica along with so many more.
