1968 Mercury Cougar XR7 390. C6 Cruise-O-Matic, Console, Power Steering, X code 390, 2.75 standard axle, Polar White, Medium Saddle with bucket seats. Built on December 27, 1967 at San Jose plant and delivered at Herb Stevens Mercury in Phoenix Arizona on January 24th, 1968. This car lived its life in Arizona and never had any rust. I purchased it from the second owner near the Pima air base in Tucson Arizona in January 2003. It was completely taken apart and repainted the original color at that time. I have pictures of the car with the original paint on it. The sheet metal is all original and very straight, the bottom of the car is amazing, all original floor pans with no rust. I then had the car shipped to my house in Hawthorn woods Illinois. I am the owner of a European auto repair shop and have rebuilt the rest of the car over the past few years. The car had long tube headers and Edelbrock intake when I purchased it so I have left them on. I put a new Demon carb on so it runs great. I also rebuilt the C6 trans and complete suspension and brakes. The headlight doors and sequential taillights work perfectly. I have the original intake with the 2bbl factory carb and air cleaner. The air conditioner was also removed but a new heater box with evap was installed in the dash. I have the compressor and parts for the A/C. The interior was in bad shape due to the AZ sun so it’s been a challenge to find parts. I found really nice door panels in black and a perfect center console. The dash was completely redone and the gauges are clear and all work properly. The seats have been recovered in saddle vinyl. The steering wheel is ok but could be restored. This Cougar is a real beautiful car and drives great. I have the Marti report and over 30k worth of receipts and untold hours of my time. It has been a pleasure to own and has lots of trophies from different car shows. If you are looking for an original Cougar XR7 with a big block and all matching numbers, then you will be hard pressed to find one in better condition than this. SOLD
