This low mileage 1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser convertible is a mostly original survivor. 61K original miles and it is, I believe, a two owner car. We are selling this for the estate of the owner.
This Pace Car series Mercury is incredibly well optioned. A partial list of options include:
-368 c.i. V8 engine.
-Cruise-O-Matic transmission with push buttons.
-Town and Country radio
-Seat-O-Matic memory power seat
-Lube-O-Matic central lubrication system
-Remote mirror of the left side
-Average Speed computer clock
The car is mostly original. The paint is probably 50% original, 50% touch up. Overall it is good. There are chips, dents, scratches all over, but could definitely be used exactly the way it is. The tinted glass is good. One small chip in the windshield that could be filled in. All the windows work well. The top is original to the car and in very good condition and includes a brand new boot. It opens and closes well. The chrome and stainless are very nice. The tires are newer with very very little to no use.
The interior is original and in very good condition. Most if not all of the factory options work including the windows, memory seat, radio, etc. The dash is in great condition. The optional steering wheel is perfect.
The engine compartment is original and very presentable. All wiring is in very good condition, not dry. The carburetor is freshly rebuilt. The engine runs very well and the transmission shifts correctly. There is some lifter noise from time to time. The car has been sitting for a couple of years now so it might clear up after being driven. The brakes feel great.
In the past few thousand miles the car has received over $8000 in service work including; carb, suspension, steering, brakes, transmission seals, etc, etc. The car could be driven and enjoyed exactly as it sits now.
Overall this is a very unique and rare classic car. It is uncommon to find one in this condition with low miles, fully loaded with options and well cared for.
