For sale is a 1955 Pontiac Chieftain located in our Louisville Showroom. The 1955 model Chieftains featured completely new chassis, body and engine. The engine was the biggest news as this was Pontiac's first V8. The 287.2 cu in engine made 173 or 180 horsepower at 4400 rpm depending on which version was ordered. The difference was due to changes in compression ratios. The engine in this particular Chieftain is original to the car, and at some previous time in its history has been rebuilt. The current owner decided since it was running so well, there was no need to rebuild it. He did have the transmission rebuilt while it was out of the car during the restoration process. The Pontiac Chieftain did receive new lower rocker panels and floor pans. Once the body work was completed, a tasteful red and white basecoat with clear coat paint scheme was applied. A chrome strip accenting the body lines breaks the red and white up in just the right way. The red and white theme continues inside to the interior. The vinyl seats have red inserts and the rest in white. The steel dash is red and retains the factory gauges. New red carpet has been added giving this Chieftain a fresh clean look. To make sure you stay cool, as you will look while driving this way cool Pontiac Chieftain, an Air Conditioning system has been installed. A set of chromed “Ion” wheels with new radial tires have been added to finish off the looks of this ‘50’s machine.
