1928  Pontiac  Coupe

1928 Pontiac 4 door coupe. It has a flat head 6 Cylinder, 40-horse power engine that pushes the old girl around just fine. Sorry but I don’t know the exact engine size. Truly a rare find. You just don’t see Pontiac's of this age for sale anymore. This one wouldn’t be either, but kids have to go to college and Dad is broke. This gem is in terrific shape. Of course if you have ever restored an antique car you know there is always something else you want to do.

The body is in A-1 shape. It is true and straight with no dents or dings. There is no rust on this car. Doors work well. Windows, including the roll up windshield all work perfectly. Glass is all clear. Roof is new with new trim and padding. Running boards are new. All lights work perfectly as they should. We have installed turn signals to be safe when we drive around. They can be removed with NO tail-tale signs they were ever there. Bumpers are an original option with the car and have new chrome. There are no leaks in the cab. New tires and tubes have less than 100 miles on them including a new spare. Wood wheels have been refinished and are good solid Oak as the pictures show. Hubcaps are correct and matching in great condition. The windshield wiper and motor are complete but you will need to rebuild the vacuum motor for it to work properly. The exterior sun-visor is in excellent condition and the brackets to hold in place are new. The outside rearview mirrors are new. The spare tire cover is also new.

The interior is new and we still have the old material if you would like to have it. It is done in material that applies to the era of the car. The interior was completely removed and all inside metal painted with rust proof paint for future preservation. Headliner has been replaced and is good and tight. The seat surfaces are new in Grey leather and the seats have no flaws. The wood steering wheel and gearshift knob are original and match, as they are newly refinished and beautiful. This car has two interior dome lights that are very ornate and work perfectly. An ornate switch turns them off and on. Dash looks new with all new paint. The gauges have all been reworked and look new. New brass knobs for the controls are all in perfect fit and working order. The original option of a heater works perfectly. All door and window hardware is original, complete, very ornate and in excellent condition. All 3 rear windows have new roll up window shades with tassels.

Mechanically, the car is very sound. The rear end has just been completely reworked. Brakes are good but as with any mechanical brakes they won’t stop on a dime. All wheel bearings have been replaced. New grease seals on all the axles. Transmission is sound. The clutch will chatter a little at times so that may need attention before long. No leaks. The radiator is solid and has a temperature gauge on top so you can monitor water temperature while driving the car (see the photo). I have done nothing to the engine compartment except replace the hoses and belt, a new solenoid and a little rewiring that was needed. The pictures show the engine pretty much as it has been. It runs too good to disturb so we have not reworked anything there. The carburetor has had a little work. Engine starts easily and purrs just like an old tractor engine does. All 40 horsepower! The original 6-volt system is still in tact and perfect working order. Most wiring has been replaced. Speedometer works perfectly but will need the connecting gear at the transmission to perform properly. Odometer shows 29,000+. Gas gauge works and we have the extra fluid to keep it working well as it is a fluid type gauge. Ampmeter and Tachometer work fine. New battery and cables.

We have kept this car in original condition. As you can tell from the descriptions, we have put a lot into the details. Where deviations from original may appear like the turn signals, they can be removed with no traces. It has been garage kept by us for the past 3 years then its previous owner, a Doctor in Virginia, kept it in his garage after he purchased it from a closing car dealer where it had sat in the dealers showroom for over 35 years in Virginia. Before this, I am told the car was purchased in New York, but this is hearsay. That’s about all the history I know. I do know this is a great car if you want a nice showpiece and something that you can work on or “piddle” with, or just enjoy driving around in your spare time as a hobby. I have enjoyed it greatly and dearly hate to part with it.

If you have other questions feel free to email the questions. We will answer promptly. If you would like more pictures, please email me and we will send them along to you. We have several more than are shown here. The car may be viewed In Mt. Juliet Tennessee. The sale may be terminated at anytime as we do have the car listed for sale in other ways. While this car is not cheap, it is well worth the price we have set due to its excellent condition and rare vintage. This is one of the few they didn’t melt down for the war. We have shown the car locally 3 times and it took home trophies at all 3 shows. We even have the original owner’s manual. Clear Title.

Buyer to pay shipping costs.
You may pick up the Car in Mt. Juliet TN., which is about 15 miles east of Nashville. We will be happy to cooperate with any other type of freight you would like to arrange if you don’t want to pick it up. It can easily be driven home and will probably make most any distance trip just fine. However I wouldn’t want to drive it a long distance, as this IS an antique. It trailers well too.
